And judging by his profile, he’s in Raleigh too. Do we have another?
Also, will you be making to C&C Greensboro?

How many Raleigh Oppos are there? I know there’s me, you (sorta), Thunder (literally saw him today), among like three or four others.

If I understand the “myth” correctly, the so-called buffer-zone was originally intended to account for speedometer discrepancies.
So if you were only going one or two MPH over the speed limit, an officer would be able to tell that you’re at least trying to go the proper speed. Only if one was going five or more MPH over does it become obvious that the driver is either not paying attention, or is trying to take advantage of this buffer.
The story goes that once everyone found out about this buffer, speeding became “the norm”. So instead of raising the speed limit to reflect the new “85th perctentile”, a new buffer was implemented to target only the worst offenders: those going 1o or more MPH over the limit.
(Of course, I’ve never heard of these buffers being official in any way that would hold up in court. It’s just a rule of thumb to help officers spend their efforts on things more worthy of their attention.)
Still, this whole notion overlooks the main issue where a large percentage of drivers disagree with the established speed limit. During my driving career, I have actually seen the speed limit raised on multiple roadways. And in each case, this has made things better, not worse.
We don’t need some double-standard “buffer” to tell us how much we can fudge around with the law. What we need is better, more thoughtful application of speed limits.
(And better driving habits...)

I typically don’t do more than 5 over. But you never know what kind of day the HP has. Especially if you’re in the workzone in Raleigh.. :-(

I had heard the Raleigh C&C was moved to RTP near the airport, but not sure when they’re going to start. G’Boro is just a little too far for me right now. But ironically, I’ll go up to VIR in a second whenever I can ..lol

Yeah I moved here from PA 4 years ago. I’m not sure if I’m active enough on here to be a card carrying Opponaut, but I’ve been reading Oppo for a few years. It’s seems like there are enough of us that we should maybe do a separate post to take a roll call.

I haven’t used a radar detector in years. Been ticket free except for last year because I was following someone on a back road. Tropper turned around and pulled BOTH of us. Said since I was following the othr guy I was speeding too. Ain’t nobody got time fo’ dat... Lawyer/Improper Equipment/Done.
